Classroom Expectations

WELCOME BACK!!

PARTICIPATION… You need to be involved and participate in class for maximum success. Never be afraid to ask a question in class, math related or otherwise.!

EXTRA HELP…I will be available for help throughout the year at 7:40 a.m. on most mornings. From September to December, I am available after school some afternoons, except Tuesdays. I am also available during some study periods during the week. The most important thing is…ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT!!

PREPARATION FOR CLASS…. Prepared means being on time and ready to go. When the bell rings, you are expected to be in your seat ready to work. No food (except for snack), gum, or candy will be allowed in class.

GRADING

NEW THIS YEAR!!!!   At the close of each trimester, I will only be giving you one (1) grade for the term for your

Test/Quiz Average. Homework/Classwork will be incorporated into this grade.

MATERIALS

It is necessary that you have the following materials each day in class:

  • Notebook with lined paper and graph paper also     •Assignment Notebook       • Two Pencils with erasers               CALCULATOR – this is MANDATORY. Each student needs a scientific calculator in class EVERY day

NOTEBOOK

Your Math notebook should always be kept organized using three (3) sections:

  1. Daily notes and classwork         2. Homework            3. VIPs (very Important Papers)

HOMEWORK POLICY…Expect homework 4-5 days a week. Homework can be found online through my Google Homework Calendar. More specific information on my homework expectations will be addressed in class. Homework should always be done in pencil.

PROCESS vs. ANSWERS…. It is more important that all of you understand the process necessary to solve a given problem.   Therefore, it is advantageous for you to show all work done for a problem, whether on homework, a quiz, or a test. In other words, in my class: THE PROCESS (WORK SHOWN) IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCT!!

I hope that the information given will help your child have a very successful year in 8th grade Math. Should any problems or concerns arise, please do not hesitate to e-mail (preferred), or schedule an appointment to meet. Back to School Night is Thursday, September 29th, and I look forward to meeting all of you. Finally, I would appreciate it if you would add any comments or notes to the bottom of this sheet, as well as your printed name and e-mail address for communication throughout the year. It is important that we all start this journey on the same page, and in a cooperating manner. I am looking forward to a great 2016-2017 school year!
