GKE – Investigation 1

Focus Questions

1-1  What is speed?

1-2  What is acceleration?

1-3  What is gravity?

Vocabulary

acceleration        air resistance       average speed        constant speed

distance      force      gravity        position    slope      speed

Concepts

• The average speed of an object is the distance it travels in a unit of time(v = ∆x / ∆t).

• The slope of the line of a graph of distance versus time represents speed; steeper slopes represent faster speeds.

• An object that does not move at a constant speed has acceleration, change in speed per unit per time (a = ∆v / ∆t)

• A falling object increases speed with a constant acceleration, regardless of the object’s mass.

• Gravity is an attractive force between two objects with a rate of acceleration of 9.8 m/s^2 on Earth.
