March 10, Principal’s Update

Dear CMS Families,

Interviews for the next CMS principal were conducted this week. News regarding next steps will be shared with the Concord community shortly.

We have reviewed all of the feedback from students, parents, faculty, and support staff about the Amplify Science pilot. While we saw real strengths in the curriculum’s approach to teaching scientific writing and concepts through real-world scenarios, the science department has unanimously decided that, as a whole, Amplify Science is not the best fit for our students. From this point on, teachers will be drawing from a number of sources (including Amplify) to finish out the year’s remaining topics, as we continue our search for a balanced, engaging curriculum aligned to the new science standards.

Today Officer Camilleri conducted our annual assembly on ALICE Emergency Procedures for all 6th graders and new 7th and 8th grade students. These procedures have been in place for over 3 years. Using these procedures in an emergency evacuation, students are told to escape/evacuate, run to a safe location, or designated relocation points. Officer Camilleri will review procedures with 7th and 8th graders in the next weeks and we will hold an actual drill sometime in the Spring.
