Principal’s Update, September 9

Hello, CMS families,

We had a great second week of school! Visiting classrooms I see students engaged and collaborating around classroom projects and assignments. For example, in 8th grade social studies students are working in groups to “Create a Nation.” This becomes a launching point to talking about the theme of justice throughout the year. In 7th grade English, I observed small groups of students analyzing writing for strengths and weaknesses. Discussions were lively and students enjoyed the give and take that they had with each other. This level of engagement will promote student learning!

On the technology front, remaining issues with student logins seem to have solved. Next week, students will receive their log-in credentials for the Aspen Portal. This will allow them to log in and monitor their own progress.

6th grade families who were unable to attend last night’s Merrowvista information meeting can find the related forms on the Parent and Student Information page of our web site. Hard copies of completed forms need to be returned to the office by September 16th.

Concord Castaways continues!  Next week’s task is to tell a CMS adult about a historical fiction book they read this summer. For more on Concord Castaways click on the link.
