CMS Principal’s Update April 8, 2016

4.8.16    Principal’s Update

Dear Families,

With only a week before April break, a great deal is happening at CMS.

The Little Mermaid:

Tuesday’s preview performance was spectacular! The singing, the acting, and the dancing was simply amazing despite missing Monday’s rehearsal because of snow and it being only the preview. Those of you seeing it this weekend are in for a treat. Thank you to Mr. Shancady for all of his hard work, Tracey Marano who coordinated all of the wonderful parent volunteers, parents who supported their children, and of course all of the students who contributed their hard work to this effort. A special appreciation goes out to PTG who funds a good deal of the production to ensure it’s a high quality opportunity for our children.

Fall Selective Choice Classes for next year’s 7th & 8th Graders:

Next year students in every grade level will have the opportunity to cite preferences for a class that meets 1x/6-day cycle for a single trimester. Students will be scheduled for three classes over the course of the year. As always in these circumstances, we can’t guarantee first preferences will be met, but we will do our best. PARCC Testing:

We ran our login practice yesterday, with a high level of success. There were a few “slow down” issues due to the fact that every student was logging on at once. You may recall that we have staggered our testing schedule this year to ensure this is not an issue. Our IT staff will be meeting with every student who was unable to login to make sure they are all set. Students will be completing practice tests next week. Another link to the testing schedule is below. Please avoid absences and the scheduling of morning appointments for students if at all possible. IMPORTANT: Students should bring earbuds or headphones and a book along with their fully charged laptops to every test session.

Digital Literacy Administrator K12

The letter I sent earlier in the week informing the community that I have applied for a position at the District level raised some questions that I would like to address:

  • This position begins in the 2016-2017 school year, not this year.
  • I will be staying at CMS as principal, quite happily, I might add, if I am not selected for the role.
  • I expect the process to be completed in early May.
  • If I were to leave CMS to take on this role, an interim principal would be hired for next year.

A link to the letter I sent is here. I will keep you posted as the process progresses, continuing to ensure that you have accurate information directly from me.
