Monday, March 14 – A Day

Science Olympiad:  On Saturday, March 5, the CMS Science Olympiad Club (The Underwater Bears Curling Team) participated in the Massachusetts State Competition, held at Assumption College in Worcester.  Our team of 10 students participated in 13 events.  Some of our top results are the following:
Brian Wirth and Rachel Dettelbach earned 4th place in The Bio Process Lab. Brian Wirth and Rachel Dettelbach earned 3rd place in Disease Detectives.Julia Clarke and Corey Sanderson earned 6th place in Green Generation.Julia Clarke and Corey Sanderson earned 8th place in Picture This. Vishal Chandra and Joachim Laurent earned 6th place in Write-it, Do-it! Overall, the CMS Underwater Bears Curling did exceptional work throughout the school year, building, testing, and revising their prototypes for the competition.  Special congratulations goes to the Air Trajectory Team (Leanna Bomer), the Bottle Rocket Team (Leighton Carter, Emily Monte, and Belle Venn), and the Bridge Building Team (Elizabeth Rennert and Magan Lee).  All 3 teams are 8th graders and will be moving on to the high school next year.

Dodge ball will meet every Monday for 7/ 8 graders and Wednesdays for 6th graders. This week only 6th graders will meet until 3:40.

7th and 8th graders are invited to sign-up for spring sports outside the office at each building. Students must have a current physical on file with the nurse in order to participate.

Softball and baseball will begin tryouts on Monday, April 4 (weather permitting).  In addition to a physical, students and parents must complete a try-out expectations form before the first day of try-outs. Track practice will begin also begin on Monday, April 4.

The 7th and 8th grade Journalism Class would like to conduct a poll. Please take a minute and take this poll. We will provide the results in an upcoming newsletter. Here is the link: CMS Poll

Intramural Volleyball meets on Thursday and Friday this week. Please be sure to have a ride or take the bus at 4:30.

 Read-Off News: A lot of students have signed up and recorded an amazing, diverse range of books read.  Remember, students may request a staff person who doesn’t have a homeroom to read for THEIR homeroom!  Come to the Library to see the homeroom tallies. Standing For Week One:Peabody 1st place: Ms. Heath and Ms. Hogan are tied with 20 books read.Sanborn 1st place: Ms. Moss with 28 books read.

LIBRARY READ OFF: Our annual read off has begun and will end Friday, April 1.  This year’s competition will be between home rooms…we will keep a running tally on display in the library – the homeroom who reads the most books during the read off will earn 50 points towards the year-long “Homeroom Cup” (to add to points earned during Halloween and Maroon/Gold day)!  Teachers are encouraged to align with a homeroom and participate too.

Join SLASH! A two week scavenger hunt organized by the Student Leaders to raise funds for Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership. This starts on March 21st, so sign up soon! This is open to all grades, and the winners have a chance to win prizes  at the end of the race. Go to the office, and sign up! Form a team of two, and split the cost of $4 and you’re in! If you want more info on this, there are plenty of posters around your school! You can also talk to Mrs. Cotter or Ms. Stockwood. Thanks! Student Leaders
