Fitness Assessment

Two times a year (Fall & Spring) the PE classes at Peabody participate in a  fitness assessment. Below is a paragraph that describes the fitness assessment program we use as well as how the classes are structured during this time.

The Physical Education department uses the fitnessgram program to assess our students health related fitness levels. The test items are selected to assess important aspects of a student’s health-related fitness. Students are not compared to each other, but rather to criterion-based Healthy Fitness Zone standards, established for each age and gender, that indicate good health. The students will be assessed in cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility.

The assessments are done in a relaxed atmosphere in which we encourage our students to support each other in a positive manner. We emphasize to the students to do their “personal best” and not be concerned with their classmate’s results.

Our philosophy in our PE classes is to create a positive, supportive atmosphere where students feel safe and comfortable all the time. We support our students with positive encouragement and all we ask is that they try to give us an honest effort. Our students are extremely supportive of each other and during our fitness assessment it is great to see the kids cheer each other on and help each other.

Please feel free to email or call if you have any questions at all.

Thank you!
