Health Services

Welcome to Health Services

Effective health care management requires a partnership among the student, parents/guardians, primary care provider, and school staff. The school nurse collaborates with all disciplines to coordinate resources from school, home, and community to support the overall health of each student.

The school nurse is responsible for providing emergency care, health maintenance, and guidance for students and staff. The school's role in emergency care is primarily limited to first aid, which is the immediate and temporary care given to prevent further injury until medical care can be obtained. All medical treatment beyond first aid is outside the school's responsibility. Except in emergencies, transportation is the responsibility of the parents/guardians. It is essential that the school has current emergency contact numbers if you are unavailable by phone during the day, and transportation for a sick child must always be available.

When to Keep Your Child Home:
  • Communicable Disease: If diagnosed with a communicable disease.
  • Fever: Fever over 100ºF within the last 24 hours and not on fever-reducing medication.
  • Infection: After being diagnosed with strep or a bacterial infection, stay home until 24 hours of antibiotic treatment is completed.
  • Vomiting/Diarrhea: If experiencing vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours; students should be able to consume and tolerate their usual diet before returning.
  • Acute Pain: If in acute pain that requires narcotic medications for relief.
  • Upper Respiratory Illness: Persistent coughing and/or unmanageable nasal discharge.
  • Undiagnosed Rash: If there is an undiagnosed rash.
