February 3, Principal’s Update

Dear CMS Families,

Plug into Big Savings and Help Our School Win $1000! RSVP NOW for the Cooler Concord Fair www.coolerconcord.org Our school will be able to win up to $1,000 if a significant number of parents attend and take action at the Cooler Concord Fair. The Fair will showcase simple and significant ways to save energy and money.  There will be 10 exhibits as follows: home weatherization, high-efficiency home heating and cooling, hot water heating, LED lighting, solar power, transportation (including new electric cars), home appliances, sustainable yards, reduce/reuse and eat less meat. Workshops on specific topics will be held throughout the day.

Our seventh graders will be hosting a 6/7 grade dance to support Water for South Sudan, a nonprofit organization started by Salva Dut, that helps the villages of South Sudan get access to clean water. Water for South Sudan changes lives.  They drill wells that will provide a constant flow of clean healthy water for the South Sudanese. The dance will be held on February 10th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Sanborn cafeteria. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. It is a Valentine’s day theme, so wear as much red and pink as you can find.

Here are a few staffing updates. We expect Mr. Beers to return to the classroom next week. I want to send out a huge thank you to Ms. Bigay and Ms. Richards for ably stepping in and providing excellent instruction to students over the past month. Ms. Eleonora Lecei has been hired as the long-term substitute for Ms. Balian. She started this past Monday. Finally, Ms. Cline Scott, one of our Assistant Principals, has gone on leave as she is soon to give birth to her second child. We are in the process of looking for someone to fill her position for the remainder of the school year.

We occasionally hear that parents update their student’s myschoolbucks account and the funds are not available. The site notes that payments can take 1-2 business days to process. Please plan accordingly.
