Principal’s Update, July 22

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer break. I am enjoying my new position, we have been very busy getting ready for September. I am providing a few mid-summer updates for you here.

Schedules: Finalized schedules will be published mid-August.

Summer Reading: Information on required summer reading assignments can be found on our summer reading website:    http://libguides.colonial.net/content.php?pid=695769

Merrowvista Dates Set:    Sanborn October 3-5         Peabody October 5-7

We are aware that these dates are in conflict with the Jewish Holidays and though we tried to have the schedule rearranged, the folks at Merrowvista were unable to make that happen due to their own conflicts. Though we hope to keep the absences of our students who observe the holidays to a minimum, we certainly understand families’ decisions to observe these holidays.

6th grade welcome and Merrowvista Information Night: September 8. 6-7:30pm at Sanborn

Addendum sent out on July 26th: I am providing an update to 6th grade trip to Merrowvista. Last week after I sent out my mid-summer update, I learned that our dates for Merrowvista were not going to work due to the conflict with the Rosh Hashana and how our school committee stated that we would not schedule events during those days. I misunderstood those days were to be “blacked out.” I have therefore re-entered conversations with Merrowvista to see how we can adapt our plans. CMS will not go to Merrowvista during October 3 and 4. While I do not know what our work with them will look like quite yet, I am working hard to solidify those plans and pass them along to you as soon as possible.

Guidance at Peabody: Next year, there will be adjustments within our guidance staff assignments.  Jenn Moran will be working with 6th graders and Ron Noel will support our 7th grade students.  Jenn and Ron will continue to split the 8th grade.  If you have a child who will be affected by this transition please reach out to either Ms. Moran or Mr. Noel and they well work with you to address any concerns.

6th grade Summer Tours:

Next month, former students will helping us provide  incoming 6th graders with tours of their assigned building . Sign up your child for a tour on the 2016 Student Tour Sign Up Form linked here.
