CMS Principal’s Update 23 March 21, 2016

Dear Families,

Grade 6 Foreign Language Country Projects: It was wonderful to see so many parents and 6th grade students at last week’s open house for the foreign language country projects. Students acted as guides for their families showing their own work as well as that of their peers. Thank you to Ms. Belkadi, and Ms. Cheng, Ms. Hall for providing this opportunity.

Term 2 Ending: Term 2 will officially close at the end of the school day Monday, March 22. Grades are expected to be entered by Thursday, March 24th. The Aspen parent portal is expected to be open to view report card grades on Tuesday, March 29th.

Aspen Gradebook Pilot: Beginning this week, several CMS teachers will be piloting the Aspen Gradebook Portal in preparation for Fall implementation. Use of the Gradebook will allow students and parents to view grades for assignments as they are entered in the same portal as trimester report cards. Teachers in the pilot will communicate with students and parents as to how they will be using the Gradebook and what you can expect.  Teaches involved are:

Ms. Cotter, 6th grade social studies, Sanborn

Mr. Davidson, 8th grade math, Sanborn

Ms. Helinski, 7th grade math, Sanborn

Ms. Hogan-Stedman, 6th grade math, Peabody

Ms. Frizzell, 8th grade English, Sanborn

Reminder About Computer Games: Recently, students in study and library have needed frequent redirection away from games and toward more structured tasks. Though primarily educational, and often recommended by teachers, games are still not considered to be school tasks, and as such, should not take the place of assigned tasks during study and library time. Students will hear a reminder in Monday’s morning announcements. The staff thanks you for your support with this reminder to students.
