Principal’s Update #16 – January 22, 2016

Good Evening!

Here are a few recent updates that I hope are of interest to you:

A.L.I.C.E. Assemblies have now been completed for all CMS 6th and 7th graders and for 8th graders that are new to our community. Thank you to Concord Police Detective Scott Camilleri, our school safety officer, for presenting to all students, providing helpful information about this aspect of our emergency procedures, and for answering student questions.

The New England Future Cities Competition was held in Boston last weekend. This is a culminating event for the Future Cities club. Due to the long weekend and various conflicts, 6th grader Ben Sprague was accompanied by Mr. Shattuck, and took on the entire presentation single-handedly. Club members’ Powerpoint presentations on their goals and achievements, a 1500 word essay, and Ben’s presentation of the work earned them a 15th place ranking out of 50 schools in attendance. This year’s contest included a focus on solid waste management in the city designed first on paper, then with Sim City software, and finally as a 3-D model.

Reminder About Personal Belongings: Parents, please remind students that backpacks and computers should never be left in the hallway, or unattended in any location, whether during the school day or after school.

Peabody Art teacher Ms. Plante has had to extend her leave of absence through April 4th. Though we miss her terribly, we are excited to have Ms. Pirie-St.Amour stay on with us in her place.
