CMS Fall 2023 Interscholastic Sports

Overview: Interscholastic sports require a four-day-a-week commitment, with students competing against other middle schools in the area. CMS also offers intramural sports, which are less formal and involve playing against fellow CMS students. For more information on intramural sports, visit our After School Activities Page.
CMS Interscholastic Fall Sports: The following sports are offered to students:
- 6th Graders: Cross Country (Note: If there isn’t enough interest from 7th & 8th graders in field hockey or soccer, try-outs may open to 6th graders)
- 7th Graders: Cross Country, Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ Soccer
- 8th Graders: Cross Country, Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ Soccer
Important Dates:
- Informational Webinar: For parents/students interested in Fall Interscholastic Sports on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
- Sign-Up Deadline: The last day to sign up and provide proof of a current physical is Thursday, September 7, 2023.
- Season Start: The fall interscholastic sports season begins Friday, September 8, 2023.
More Information:
- Cross Country: No cuts; open to all interested students.
- Field Hockey and Soccer: Cuts may occur if the number of try-outs exceeds the roster spots allowed by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
Practice and Participation:
- Students who make a team practice four times a week (no Wednesdays) from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM and compete against other schools.
- 6th graders participating in Cross Country will be shuttled to Sanborn for practices and home meets.
- Late buses are available at 4:30 PM for all students, including those from the Boston area.
Health Requirements:
- All students must have a current physical on file to participate in interscholastic sports.
- Physicals must be submitted to the nurse by the first day of practice/try-outs.
- Once teams are set, students and parents must complete a head-injury history form and an online concussion training.
- Physicals are valid for 13 months per MIAA policy. If a physical expires mid-season, an updated one must be submitted to continue participation.
